THE ART OF SHAPING LIGHT
At the heart of Tom Rossau's design philosophy is the transformation of flat materials into three-dimensional sculptural forms. Carefully arranged lamellas create layered structures that diffuse light, produce delicate shadows and give each lamp its distinctive expression.
When switched off, the luminaires function as sculptural objects. When illuminated, their materials reveal new depth and texture, creating a warm and atmospheric presence within the interior.
MATERIALS AND CRAFTSMANSHIP
Tom Rossau combines an experimental approach to design with hands-on manufacturing expertise. The collections feature materials such as birch veneer, coated paper and specialised translucent materials, each selected for its distinctive visual character and interaction with light.
The lamps are handcrafted at the brand's workshop in Copenhagen, Denmark. Skilled makers shape and assemble the individual elements with care, and each lamp is accompanied by a card signed by the person who made it.
This close relationship between design and production allows Tom Rossau to maintain a distinctive balance of precision, individuality and craftsmanship.
RESPONSIBLE DESIGN
Material choice and local production play an important role in Tom Rossau's approach to responsible design. According to the brand, more than 90% of its materials are responsibly sourced within Europe, including birch veneer sourced from Finland.
The brand also works to reduce production waste and packaging impact. Its No.111 series, for example, is supplied flat-packed to reduce packaging and transport-related resource consumption.
By combining durable design, thoughtful material selection and local manufacturing, Tom Rossau aims to create lighting that remains relevant beyond short-lived trends.
